The Love Of Science (Nathainel Hawthorne's The Birthmark) The Love of Science In this exposition, I will examine how science shows fiendish in Nathaniel Hawthorne's ?The Birthmark.? Science is a significant resource on the planet today. The utilization and reliance of science is overpowering. Numerous logical tests are corrupt. Hawthorne raises numerous significant issues in his story. I will focus on how Aylmer puts his adoration for science before his affection for others and himself. Nathaniel Hawthorne was conceived in Salem, Massachusetts, of an unmistakable Puritan family. Hawthorne's dad passed on when he was youthful and this impacted his solemn and lone demeanor. Hawthorne read works by a wide range of writers and romancers. As Hawthorne turned into a man, he wedded Sophia Peabody. Despite the fact that his marriage was a glad defining moment in his life, Hawthorne despite everything would not share the idealistic way of thinking of Transcendentalism. While making his home in the Old Manse, he proceeded with his investigation of the Puritan mind. This was the limit for his composing Moses From and Old Manse, which notwithstanding ?The Birthmark.? In Hawthorne's ?The Birthmark,? Aylmer really puts his first love, science, aside to convince a sweetheart. He feels that the time has come to discover a spouse. A long time back it was not irregular for the love of science to match the adoration for lady in its profundity, and retaining vitality.? (Hawthorne 277) When hitched, Aylmer brings to his new spouse's consideration the little skin coloration upon her cheek. At the point when he inquires as to whether she has ever contemplated evacuating it, she is exceptionally annoyed with her significant other. He asks, ?'? has it never happened to you that the imprint upon your cheek may be expelled?'? (Hawthorne 278) She is shocked that her significant other would even ask his better half such an inquiry. Her reaction would it say it is ?'?has been so frequently considered an appeal that I was straightforward enough to envision it may be so.'? (Hawthorne 278) Aylmer's reaction is extremely coldblooded. He says ?'?we falter whether to term a deformity or a delight, stuns me?'? (Hawthorne 278) His better half is profoundly harmed (Hawthorne 278) and afterward questions Aylmer's purposes behind wedding her. Did he wed Georgiana just to utilize her to evacuate the pigmentation upon her valuable face? As dismal for what it's worth to concede, he might just have. The pigmentation was scarcely observable. For what reason would he raise such a conversation? For what reason would it be a good idea for it to issue if Georgiana had a little pigmentation on her cheek? ?Manly eyewitnesses of the skin pigmentation didn't increase their profound respect, battled themselves with wishing it away (Hawthorne 278) If no other man had disapproved, for what reason did Aylmer? In the event that he disapproved so a lot, for what reason did he wed her? Obviously Georgiana is reluctant of the secretive fix Aylmer has drawn out into the open. ?'Maybe it expulsion may cause cureless derformity; or it might be simply the stain dives as deep as life itself. Once more: do we realize that there is a possibility?of unclasping the firm hold of this little hand which was laid upon me before I came into this world?'? (Hawthorne 280) Are there side effects? Provided that this is true, what do they comprise of? The main reaction Aylmer gives would i say i is ?'?have spent such a great amount of thought upon the subject?I am persuaded of the ideal practicability of its expulsion.'? (Hawthorne 280) He is certain that nothing will turn out badly. Be that as it may, obviously, will Aylmer truly need to make Georgiana mindful of any side influences that he is aware of? He is so stressed over his significant other's looks and his adoration for science, he couldn't care less. Georgiana then stresses over her better half's sentiments of nauseate and says ?'If there be the remotest chance of it?let the endeavor be made at whatever chance. Threat is nothing to me; forever, while this derisive makes me the object of your shock and sicken, - life is a weight which I would hurl down with satisfaction. Either evacuate this appalling hand, or take my pathetic life! You have profound science.'? (Hawthorne 280) She confides in her significant other and his work. Now, Aylmer ought to have told his better half that he didn't vehicle about her looks, he just for her inside magnificence. He didn't do that however. He essentially answers ?'?question

Swimming General Purpose: To inform Specific Purpose Statement: To inform my audience about the history and development of swim along with its applications. Central Idea: Swimming has a long and rich history that dates back way before our generations and is not always as beneficial as we may think. Method of Organization: Topical Introduction I. (Gain attention and interest) I remember joining the high school swim team back in my sophomore year. I remember struggling to catch a breath in between every stroke while simultaneously trying not to breath in any water. To be honest, swimming scared me, but drowning scared me more. III. Trudgen effectively changed Englandââ¬â¢s swimming styles from endurance based to more speed based. iv. Another swimming pioneer, Fredrick Cavill , helped further develop Trudgenââ¬â¢s stroke into an even faster stroke known as the front crawl (livestrong.com). 1. He was an Englishman and a notable swimmer who emigrated to Australia. 2. Like Arthur Trudgen, Cavill observed the natives of the Solomon Islands and found that Trudgenââ¬â¢s stroke would have been significantly faster if he would have incorporated the nativeââ¬â¢s kicking action. 3. Cavill refined the nativeââ¬â¢s stroke and taught it to his sons, one of which would later use the stroke in a competition in England. 4. Since England was still using the Trudgen stoke, Cavillââ¬â¢s son Richard, destroyed his competition with the more efficient stroke, which he described as, ââ¬Å"crawling through the waterâ⬠(usaswimming.org). Hence, the name front crawl. 2. As I previously mentioned, I will describe the four basic strokes that swimming consists of, such as the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly A. I woke up early, finished the reports I was supposed to submit during the day drove to the office and I was not late. Then, my boss hands me the memo and says that I am given until tomorrow to submit a written explanation. I mumble incoherently but feel crushed and almost in tears and angry at my boss. We will write a custom essay sample on Becoming an Optimist or any similar topic only for you Order Now Belief I am not a good worker, I am always tardy and hence I have become a liability to my department. I do not have any place in this office anymore. I have no choice but to resign. Consequence I am depressed and angry and hurt. Disputation I am not a bad worker, I have met deadlines, I have been innovative at my work and I give my best in every task I am assigned to. I have had high performance evaluation ratings for the last 4 years in this job. My reaction to the memo was overreacting; of course it is company policy to call the attention of employees who had been late for work a number of times to make sure that they can do something about it. I was late a couple of times but that did not mean I am a lousy employee, even my boss comes to the office late at times. I had been working two jobs and going to school at the same time and it means that I am tired and exhausted thus if I wake up late in some mornings it is understandable because my body has to rest at some point. Thinking that I am a bad employee and that I have to resign is not really doing me anything good, instead of checking my behavior; I felt utterly depressed and had to miss work in the afternoon. It does not do anything good to think these thoughts. Energization I decided that I can prove to myself that I can be punctual everyday, thus I have made a contract with myself saying that I will never be late for work anymore, starting today! Being optimistic is related to motivation because it gives that extra boost to the person who is faced with challenges and difficulties (Seligman, 1991). Optimism is a state of mind and heart, that is, to think positively about the outcome of the situation or event. When a person thinks that a problem is a challenge, and then he/she would face it head on and believe that he/she can overcome it, if a person thinks that a problem is a punishment, then he/she would not do anything at all since he/she has already accepted defeat. Question: Discuss about the Operations Management of Material Requirements. Answer: Introduction Description of the Firm The first Fairmont hotel was opened in 1907 in San Francisco (Fairmont, 2017). The old facility soon developed to become the citys ideal location for most presidential visits, accommodation and political meetings (Fairmont, 2017). Following its establishment, the name Fairmont quickly came to be associated with place of the occasion, which was the auspicious beginning that gave birth to the Fairmont Hotels Resorts brand (Fairmont, 2017). Fairmont has majored in its commitment to growth, expanding its hospitality operations into a global industry leader with some services, projects, and existing hotels (Fairmont, 2017). The firm has built an international portfolio of award-winning properties aimed at expanding by currently having more than seventy hotels worldwide. Description of the Industry Fairmonts primary mission is to become the best luxury site for customers, by offering the best dining and accommodation services (Fairmont, 2017). It also aims at becoming the best destination, hosting various events including conferences and weddings. With the rebirth of Fairmont Century Plaza targeted to spend approximately $2.5 billion in Los Angeles, the firm will attract even more prominent individuals, with the properties performing the best in the respective market The chain, however, has continued to face competition from other hotels such as Rosewood, Kempinski, The Langham Hotels and the Four Seasons among others (Owler, 2017). For a firm to be competitive in the hospitality industry, it must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service, which ranges from service excellence, reduction in wait times and producing consistent, high-quality meals and services. Customer service is a vital aspect of operations management; therefore, efficient operations management is of cri tical importance to the hotel industry. Fairmont chain would use the relative type of location to expand to new markets, whereby the hotels are located about other locations, for example, the spectacular sceneries offered by the three Pillars of Egypt and the history Century Plaza that is situated in the middle of Century City in Los Angeles (Owler. (n.d.). Revitalization of the latter hotel which is to open as Fairmont Century Plaza which will be added as a landmark hotel in the market of US will expand and lead to the growth of the luxury space ("About Us - Fairmont Hotels Resorts - Fairmont," n.d.). The expansion of Fairmont chain into the roots of Southern California would see the firm reap more profits ("Fairmont Hotels Resorts to Manage the Historic Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles - Fairmont Hotel," n.d.). Fairmont considers the location of other things before deciding if to expand its hotels in the region. The landmark of Los Angeles, for example, is near the most known neighborhood of 20th Century Fox studios, surrounded with over ten million square feet next to offices of high class, restaurants, and Beverly Hills which is among the areas in the United States with the highest grossing. Additionally, the geographic location of Fairmont chain close to main tourist destinations lures many customers to visit the hotels. For example, travelers may opt to attend Fairmont Nile Citys Diplomatic Suite located in Egypt, to have a panoramic view of the River Nile and the Pyramids (Owler, 2017). The scenery including the suits which are styled with Art Deco furnishing is significant attraction sites that help boost the number of customers willing to spend part of their holidays in this hotel. Fairmont strategic location takes into consideration of the population, which is considered to be the potential customers. Fairmonts chain located in the cities and close to the manufacturers and suppliers of products helps reduce the companys costs. The reason is that they cut on transportation costs-which widely vary depending on the distance from the supplier-due to their proximity to both the bulky raw materials and softer suppliers ("Resort Accommodations at Fairmont Hotels Resorts - Fairmont Hotels Resorts - Fairmont," n.d.). The location of Fairmont can as well be termed a reason for the high generation of revenue by the firm. The idea behind this is due to the vast number of customers who gain access to Fairmont chain. Fairmont chain has got specific strengths that enable it out-do their competitors in the hospitality sector. First, they have got highly skilled employees ("Overview - Fairmont Hotels Resorts - Fairmont," n.d.). The company encourages secondary and post-secondary learning programs to develop the best practice. Nonetheless, donations by the firm have aided them to acquire qualified workforce that translates to delivering best quality services to the customers (Heizer, Render and Griffin, 2016). Second, is the high growth rate of Fairmont, where, as indicated in their website, has many of its locations where their buildings were the first to be elected in developing cities for example across North America. Hence, they are termed to have grown along with the early communities. Their buildings are as well marked as city landmarks. BCG Matrix The growth market share matrix is designed to assist with the long-run strategic planning, to help an organization consider opportunities for growth by reviewing their portfolio products with comparison to those of their competitors. Fairmont chain main competitors are Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Luxury Hotel Experts, and Rocky Point Ventures. Fairmont chain is concerned with four factors that make it successful; the company focuses on customers as well as the environment so that it achieves its goal of being environmentally friendly ("Competitive Advantage," 2012). They also aim to maintaining the best quality of their products including their meals and services offered. They focus on innovation where their buildings were first to be erected, hence they are termed to have grown with the community, and lastly they concentrate on responding to their customers by hiring the best workforce. Nonetheless, their competitors adopt different or similar strategies, which if they take into account, they can be in a position to plan for future growth to gain competitive advantage. Shangri-La Hotel, for example, their strategy of marketing aims at delivering best quality services, having affordable room rates, and returning benefits to the customers, as well as giving the best competitive rates guarantee to their clients ("Essay: Competitive Strategy of Shangri-La Hotel | Termpaper Queen," n.d.). It also adopts a loyalty program which is known as Golden Circle Guest Recognition Program constituting of three levels which vary depending on the clients stay in their hotels, thus enabling it to return even more to its customers. If Fairmont chain considers such strategies when determining their plan for growth, they can be in a position to gain a better competitive advantage over their competitors. PEST Analysis A PEST analysis is a framework for analyzing the environmental factors-usually external factors when conducting a market research. It is used when undertaking a market growth. The chain targets at expanding its locations significantly considering both the political, economic, social, and technological factors. First, it has regarded expansion of its hotels to Nigeria, an African nation ("Fairmont Continues Expansion Into Nigeria: Signs New Luxury Hotel in Abuja," n.d.). The hotel will be situated in Abuja town thus fulfilling the rising demand for luxury in the country and help in shaping the social-culture of this oil-producing nation. The stable growth of the country makes it a world-class destination for leisure and travel. The technology in the city, with the expanded road network, offers excellent access to the hotels. Second, considering the economy and technology used in China, Fairmont has targeted to open Fairmont Wuhan by 2017. The hotel is intended to house both business and leisure travelers ("Fairmont Hotels Resorts Continues its Expansion in China with Fairmont Wuhan - Fairmont Hotels R," n.d.). The selection of Wuhan, capital to Hubei Province, is due to consideration of its economic growth and level of technology, being a transportation hub, financial, as well as education center for Central China, making the hotels to be easily accessible. The location of the hotels will be close to the Hankou Railway Station, the Tianhe International Airport, and the speedy railway system. All these considerations to the technological advancement of China offer excellent accessibility to the Fairmont hotels. By expanding to this location in different cities, the Fairmont hotels will have expanded into new markets, tapping new customers, hence boosting their annual revenue. Thus, conducting a PEST ana lysis is essential as it identifies the best place to locate their hotels for accessibility and other reasons. References About Us - Fairmont Hotels Resorts - Fairmont.
